Upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) involves removing excess skin and/or fat deposits from the upper eyelids, thus opening up the eyes.
Blepharoplasty reduces the signs of aging around the eyelids and replaces a tired appearance with a more rested and relaxed look.
The procedure:
The surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia. Stitches are removed 5 to 8 days later. Swelling and bruising are minimized through preparation, personalized aftercare, and LED light therapy.
The result:
Scars are quickly discreet. It takes 1 to 4 months to fully appreciate the result. This is the time required for the tissues to regain their elasticity. The procedure will most often have corrected skin and muscle laxity, eliminated fat deposits, and thus rectified the aged and tired appearance of the eyes.
Post-operative care:
The stitches are removed between the 5th and 7th day after the procedure. The post-operative period is mainly characterized by swelling, bruising, and tearing, the extent and duration of which vary considerably from person to person. There is no real pain, but possibly some discomfort with a feeling of tightness in the eyelids, slight eye irritation, or some visual disturbances. The scar is virtually invisible and located in the crease halfway up the eyelid.
After the procedure?
For the first two days after eyelid surgery, it is advisable to cool the eyelids and moisturize the eyes with compresses soaked in cold saline solution. This will help reduce eyelid swelling and minimize bruising and hematomas. Wearing sunglasses post-operatively will help conceal bruising and protect light-sensitive eyes after surgery.
The period of social isolation is approximately one week, depending on the degree of bruising, black eyes, and swelling. Complications such as bleeding or infection are extremely rare.
Cosmetic surgery of the lower eyelids
(lower blepharoplasty) consists of removing excess skin and/or bags under the eyes (fatty hernias), at the level of the lower eyelids (by removing the bags that give a tired appearance).
Wrinkle Removal Under the Eyes
Excess skin on the lower eyelids can be removed surgically with a scar under the eyelashes; the surgeon tightens the circular eye muscle (orbicularis oculi).
The scar is very discreet, located under the eyelashes and within a crow's foot wrinkle. The crepey, wrinkled skin of the lower eyelids can also be tightened and smoothed with laser treatment or a chemical peel, leaving no visible scars.
SURGERY FOR UNDER-EYE BAGS
This is transconjunctival lower eyelid blepharoplasty. This technique specifically helps to refresh and revitalize the face by reducing puffiness and under-eye bags. It involves a transconjunctival incision inside the lower eyelids. The scars left by these incisions are not visible
The protocol:
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia.
Swelling and bruising are minimized through preparation, personalized care, and LED therapy.
Immediately after the operation, you won't experience any real pain, but rather some slight discomfort such as a feeling of tightness or drooping of the eyelids, itching, watering, or dryness. These sensations are normal and last only a few days.
The duration and severity of bruising and swelling vary from person to person. Bruising usually disappears after seven to ten days, and swelling in about two weeks. It's best to rest for a few days after surgery.
The operated eyelid returns to its normal appearance after one to two months and regains its natural elasticity after six months. Recovery from eyelid surgery is therefore rapid, as results are visible within a few weeks.
These results are long-lasting, and the surgery rarely needs to be repeated in a lifetime. Scars are almost imperceptible in most patients.
After blepharoplasty, it is recommended to limit aging factors other than age itself, such as sun exposure, smoking, and alcohol. It is important to protect incisions from the sun by using sunglasses and/or high protection sunscreen.
Transconjunctival blepharoplasty may be offered to patients with dark circles or bags under their eyes, and whose eyes generally appear tired.
The procedure aims to refresh their appearance. It can be performed on adult men and women
and is generally suitable for relatively young individuals with bags under their eyes but without excess skin.
