Cosmetic eyelid surgery (upper blepharoplasty) involves removing excess skin and/or fatty pockets at the level of the upper eyelids (which opens up the eyes).
Blepharoplasty reduces the signs of aging present around the eyelids and replaces the “tired” look with a more rested, relaxed appearance.
The procedure:
The surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia. The stitches are removed 5 to 8 days later. Swelling and bruising are limited through preparation, tailored care, and LEDS.
The results:
The scars quickly become discreet. A period of 1 to 4 months is needed to truly appreciate the result. This is the time required for the tissues to regain all their suppleness. In most cases, the procedure corrects sagging skin and muscle, removes fat hernias, and thus rectifies the aged and tired look of the eyes.
Aftercare:
The stitches are removed between the 5th and 7th day after surgery. The immediate post-operative course is essentially marked by the appearance of swelling, bruising (ecchymoses), and tearing; their severity and duration vary greatly from person to person. There is no real pain, but possibly some discomfort with a feeling of eyelid tension, slight eye irritation, or some visual disturbances. The scar is virtually invisible and is placed along the fold located about halfway up the eyelid.
After the procedure?
During the first two days after eyelid surgery, it is recommended to cool the eyelids and hydrate the eyes with compresses soaked in cold saline solution. This will help reduce eyelid swelling and limit bruising and hematomas. Wearing sunglasses during the post-operative period will help camouflage bruises and protect sensitive eyes from light after surgery.
Social downtime is about one week, depending on the varying degree of bruising, “black eyes,” and swelling. Complications such as bleeding or infection are extremely rare.
Cosmetic surgery of the lower eyelids
(lower blepharoplasty) involves removing excess skin and/or under-eye bags (fat herniations), at the level of the lower eyelids (by eliminating the bags that give a tired appearance).
UNDER-EYE WRINKLE OPERATION
Excess skin in the lower eyelid area can be removed by surgery with a scar under the eyelashes; the surgeon tightens the circular eye muscle (orbicularis oculi).
The scar is very discreet under the eyelashes and within a crow’s-feet wrinkle.1 The wrinkled, creased skin of the lower eyelids can also be tightened and smoothed using laser or a chemical peel, without any visible scars.
UNDER-EYE BAG OPERATION
This involves lower eyelid blepharoplasty via the transconjunctival approach. This technique more specifically helps to refresh and revitalize the face by reducing puffiness and swelling of the under-eye bags. It consists of a transconjunctival incision inside the lower eyelids. The scars left by these incisions are not visible.
The protocol:
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia.
Swelling and bruising are limited through preparation, tailored care, and LEDS.
Right after the procedure, you will not truly feel pain, but rather a slight discomfort with a sensation of tightness or heaviness of the eyelids, itching, tearing, or dryness. These sensations are normal and last only a few days.
The duration and severity of bruising and swelling vary from person to person. Bruising usually goes away after seven to ten days and swelling in about two weeks.
It’s best to rest for a few days after surgery.

The operated eyelid returns to a normal appearance after one to two months, and its natural flexibility after six months. Eyelid surgery therefore heals quickly, since results are visible within a few weeks.
They are long-lasting and the surgery is rarely repeated during a lifetime. Scars are almost imperceptible in most patients.
After a blepharoplasty, it is recommended to limit aging factors other than age, such as the sun, tobacco, and alcohol. It is important to protect the incisions from the sun by using sunglasses and/or a high-protection sunscreen.
Transconjunctival blepharoplasty may be offered to a patient who has under-eye circles or bags and whose eyes generally have a tired appearance.
The procedure will aim to refresh their appearance. It can be performed on adult men or women.
It is generally intended for fairly young patients who have under-eye bags without excessive excess skin.
