Liposuction

Liposuction (or lipoaspiration) is a cosmetic surgery procedure that allows slimming of the silhouette by suctioning fatty deposits in certain parts of the body.

Liposuction is the most commonly performed aesthetic and plastic surgery procedure in the world. It is the simplest and most effective treatment for permanently removing excess fat and fat cells from many areas of the body and improving your silhouette in a lasting way.

Liposuction is performed in a clinic in the operating room under local anesthesia (gentle liposuction) or general anesthesia.

The results of liposuction are visible three to six months after the procedure, and the results last for life if you have a healthy lifestyle.

The areas most often treated with liposuction include the abdomen, thighs, and inner thighs, the saddlebag area, hips, and love handles.

How do I know if I can benefit from liposuction?

You are a good candidate for liposuction if you are in good health and your BMI (body mass index) is less than than or equal to 30. If you are looking for a weight-loss solution or a treatment for cellulite, liposuction is not the best choice.

If the patient has good skin elasticity, they will achieve a very good result.

If your weight is stable, the fat will not come back after liposuction.

How long is the hospital stay for liposuction?

The length of hospitalization varies from a few hours for outpatient care with discharge on the same day to an overnight stay at the clinic, depending on the extent of the procedure (amount of fat suctioned) and the patient’s place of residence (if you live far from the clinic, you will need to stay overnight on-site for your safety).

What type of anesthesia is used for liposuction?

The choice of anesthesia type depends on:

Your preference
The amount of fat to be removed
The areas to be treated
Most often, anesthesia is general, but the following types may be considered:

General anesthesia
Sedation ( neurolept-analgesia )
Regional anesthesia ( epidural )
Local anesthesia

How long does the operation take?

The duration of the procedure depends directly on the amount of fat to be removed and the areas to be treated. Liposuction typically takes 1 to 3 hours of operation time.

What different types of liposuction are possible?

Traditional Liposuction: We use a cannula (thin tube) to remove fat cells from the body by suction.
Ultrasonic Liposuction: the vaser lipo or vaser liposuction makes it possible to eliminate large fat deposits while tightening the skin. This technique allows you to perform high-definition liposuction or lipo 4D.
Assisted Liposuction: the lipomatic or PAL microaire
In this procedure, we use a vibrating cannula to break up fat cells. This makes it possible to use smaller incisions and achieve a simpler recovery thanks to more precise liposuction.

Other cosmetic surgery procedures may be combined with liposuction.
